ACTIVITY 3 WEEK 7 MODULE 7

MUSIC

is an art form, and a cultural activity, whose medium is sound.General definition of music  include common elements such as pitch(which governs melody and harmony), ryhthm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulations), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the “color” of a musical sound). Different styles or type of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and vocal techniques

HISTORY OF MUSIC

Music is found in every known society, past and present, and is considered to be a cultural universal.Since all people of the world, including the most isolated tribal groups, have a form of music, it may be concluded that music is likely to have been present in the ancestral population prior to the dispersal of humans around the world. Consequently, the first music may have been invented in Africa and then evolved to become a fundamental constituent of human life, using various different materials to make various instruments

THE MUSIC GENRE

A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. Music can be divided into different genres in many different ways. The artistic nature of music means that these classifications are often subjective and controversial, and some genres may overlap

THE TOP GENRES OF MUSIC INDUSTRY

ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC

Generally referred as EDM, this form of music is produced by DJs who add dozens of tones to a piece to create unique music. You can hear them in clubs or even live,

ROCK

characterized by a strong beat, the use of blues forms and the presence of rock instruments such as electric guitar, electric bass, electric organ or electric piano. This assumes that rock can be marked off from other sorts of music formally

JAZZ

Jazz is a kind of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. In most jazz performances, players play solos which they make up on the spot, which requires considerable skill. There is tremendous variety in jazz, but most jazz is very rhythmic, has a forward momentum called “swing,” and uses “bent” or “blue” notes. You can often hear “call–and–response” patterns in jazz, in which one instrument, voice, or part of the band answers another

RAP

usually delivered over a beat, typically provided by a dj,turntablist, beat boxer, or performed a acapella without accompaniment. Stylistically, rap occupies a gray area between speech, prose, poetry, and singing. The word, which predates the musical form, originally meant “to lightly strike”,and is now used to describe quick speech or repartee.

POP

is the genre of popular music that produces the most hits. … Songs that become hits almost always share certain features that are sometimes called the pop music formula. They have a good rhythm, a catchy melody, and are easy to remember and sing along to

HOW DOES MUSIC AFFECT US

Music affecs our emotions. When we listen to sad songs,we tend to feel a decline in mood. When we listen to happy songs, we feel happier.Music is an important part of our life as it is away of expressing our feelings as well as emotions. Some people consider music as a way to escape from the pain of life. It gives you relief and allows you to reduce the stress.Certain music improves the mood, intelligence, motivation and concentration. It also improves the quality of life and aids in physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs.

The reason why i feel that the world would be a very dull place without music  because music is one of the main source of entertainment in the world.Hence, this shows that without music many people who enjoy songs would not be able to find a source of entertainment and thus making the world a very dull place.

ACTIVITY 4 MODULE 8 WEEK 8

COVID 19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people who fall sick with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without special treatment.

HOW IT SPREADS

The virus that causes COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth.

BACKROUND OF COVID 19

In late December 2019 a new (novel) coronavirus was identified in China causing severe respiratory disease including pneumonia. It was originally named Novel Coronavirus and The World Health Organization (WHO) advised the following language associated with the virus. The virus causing the infection has been named – severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

SYMPTOMS

MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS: fever,dry coughs,tiredness

LESS COMMON SYMPTOMS:aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjuctivitis, head ache, lost of taste or smell, rash on skin

SERIOUS SYMPTOMS: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or preassure, lost of speech or movement

PREVENTION

Protect yourself and others around you by knowing the facts and taking appropriate precautions. Follow advice provided by your local health authority.

TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19: Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention.

TESTING

Testing can help people determine if they are infected with SARS-CoV-2 – regardless of whether they have symptoms – and whether they are at risk of spreading the infection to others. Taking measures to prevent the spread of infection will be the most effective strategy for getting us safely back to work and school.

VACCINE

We understand that some people may be concerned about getting vaccinated once a COVID-19 vaccine is available. While these vaccines are being developed as quickly as possible, routine processes and procedures remain in place to ensure and safety of any vaccine that is authorized or approved for use. Safety is a top priority, and there are many reasons to get vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccination will help keep you from getting COVID-19COVID-19 vaccines are being carefully evaluated in clinical trials and will be authorized or approved only if they make it substantially less likely you’ll get COVID-19.

Based on what we know about vaccines for other diseases, experts believe that getting a COVID-19 vaccine may help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19.

Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you, particularly people at increased risk for severe illness from covid 19

Experts continue to conduct more studies about the effect of COVID-19 vaccination on severity of illness from COVID-19, as well as its ability to keep people from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19

IMPACTS OF COVID 19 ON PEOPLE

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year

Millions of enterprises face an existential threat. Nearly half of the world’s 3.3 billion global workforce are at risk of losing their livelihoods. Informal economy workers are particularly vulnerable because the majority lack social protection and access to quality health care and have lost access to productive assets. Without the means to earn an income during lockdowns, many are unable to feed themselves and their families. For most, no income means no food, or, at best, less food and less nutritious food.

WAYS ON HOW TO STAY POSITIVE DURING PANDEMIC

The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging us in ways we could never have imagined, from unprecedented amounts of family time to homeschooling to working remotely or not working at all. These sudden, rapid changes in the way we live, coupled with uncertainty, can feel overwhelming. While we may know that it’s helpful for everyone to stay positive, it’s sometimes easier said than done. Here are some suggestions for uplifting your outlook:

Remember it will not be this way forever. This is a difficult time, but it is just that a time.

Recognize what you are doing well and give yourself credit. It may be tough right now, but you have managed some things really well. Think about the physical, logistical, mental, and emotional struggles you may have encountered in the last few months, and the good even great way you approached and handled those challenges.

Practice gratefulness. Even when life seems bleak, there are things we still have for which we should be grateful. Keep a gratefulness journal or do a quick morning gratefulness meditation. Notice both significant and small items for which you are thankful. Important things can include your home and shelter, your health, your family, your friends, your ability to put food on your table, and other essentials

Being vigilant of our mood in today’s pandemic environment should be a priority to us all. Remaining calm and constructive at times of uncertainty can help us navigate through difficulties and find a path toward our more resilient selves
